This is a wonderful site and I am glad that my friend sent it to me (Gloria Collins). I hope that they keep it going because it is informative of people we have touched. It's important for you to know that where Frank got killed I volunteered to protect the children by keeping the traffic safe for all, his mother Gloria was so thankful, and Deputy Inspector Aubry at the time was so greatful. (Previously DI Aubry from the 68 Command)
God Bless you Frank you will always be in my heart and prays.
Just recently at an 68th Precinct Medal Night, and Chief Joseph Fox, told all the new APO's about this story he also was extremely proud and will never forget what I did to help Gloria heal some of her sorrow.
God Bless All

I went to high school with Frank Collins; he was in the band Confusion, which I had seen perform during Murrow's Battle of the Bands in 1990/1991.
We weren't close, but we were cool, and I will always consider him a compadre, and a good peep. We were bound together in friendship by Mandie, and by Kerry Kelly, who also left us too soon.
It's still hard to believe he's gone. I still think about him, and will never forget him.

Al, thanks for buying my book and your support with what went down back in 1983. You are correct to write that the special state prosecutors that committed gross misconduct in handling my case should have been disbarred. But they, too, have a code of silense when it comes to protecting one of their own. But since the Durham N.C. Duke Lacrosse players incident where DA Mike Funk was disbarred for gross misconduct, things will change for the best, I hope. Charlie Joe Hynes who as you read in the book came to my rescue when he became the new special state prosecutor, and who is now Brooklyn DA, will attest to the fact that I got screwed by the enemy within.

Wow! What a site, I'm sharing this with my fellow Proud Puerto Rican brothers in blue, both retired and active. I also want you to know that the story on Sgt.Modesto Cartagena has inspired me and has pushed me to pursue my Combat Cross or Medal of Valor that was never awarded to me because the NYPD stated that they never received a request for Departmental recognition from a 1993 shooting in which I used my weapon and stopped an armed perp. from killing my partner, from making a widow, from making orphans. Question is,where do I begin? If I ever write a book I should title it, "The Unsung Blue Hero". Sgt. Cartegena is definitely an unsung hero and his story has shown me it's never too late to be righfully recognized.

Al, I think I do remember you. But I wrote up a few inmates that did put their hands on me while I was a correction officer from 1989 at Sing Sing and Coxsackie State Prison [1991-92] Met a few that I had once arrested as a cop. Last incident was at Coxsackie State Prison where I grabbed a Latino inmate in the yard who was stabbing a black inmate. The Latino inmate almost stabbed me. He got 3 years in the box. As a correction officer you had to know how to write a ticket on an inmate if you wanted it to stick. I got a lot of respect from most inmates...for they knew I was a former cop trying to do a good job. I met a lot of good COs as well. I left Coxsackie due to a back injury disability. Glad to hear you wrote a book. Send me the info via my e-mail, and I will post on my website's favorite page. God bless.

Hey,
I remember you from Sing Sing Prison. There was actually an inmate who put his hands on you and you wanted to write him up on an assault charge, but a supervisor informed you this was not considered an assault charge, unlike the streets of New York City where you was once a cop.
You came over to me, (Officer Bermudez) and discussed the incident with me, where I unfortunately and regretfully had to agree with the supervisor, remember me now?
It's been a long time and I don't except you'll remember, nevertheless it's good to know you're doing well.

Found what I was looking for. NYPD Officer Donald Kinebrew became a friend of mine in 2000. He passed away 5/2003 and I miss his friendship. He was shot trying to stop an armed robbery, and almost died then. There is no doubt that incident contributed to his early death at age 54. I a Police Detective will be riding in the 2007 Police unity Tour to Washington DC in his honor . Rest in peace Donnie, I know you are with God.
